The Opossum: A Mysterious/Beneficial Animal
Opossum or Possum? I found the post listed below on Facebook. It is about the opossum, which is a marsupial. Is a possum and an opossum the same thing? Merriam Webster dictionary explains that, "Both possum and opossum correctly refer to the Virginia opossum frequently seen in North America. In common use, possum is the usual term; in technical or scientific contexts opossum is preferred." Benefits of the Opossum/Possum: As you can see, the opossum is able to withstand up to 80 rattlesnake or coral snake bites. Thanks to this mysterious animal scientists were able to find and antidote to poisonous snake venom. So this animal is very beneficial to humans since it gives us a remedy of getting bitten by venomous snakes. In addition, this wonderful marsupial does not get rabies and it eats the dangrous tick insects.
